If you have a student in middle school, this summer may be a great time for them to explore a Trade and take part in hands-on learning activities. Space is limited to 16 seats in each program; except for Culinary (10 seats).
Middle school programs for summer 2025
Camosun's Summer Trade Exploration Programs are open to all students, born between 2011–2013, from our partnership school districts (SDs 61, 62, 63, 64 and 79).
Due to overwhelming interest in previous years, students are randomly selected to participate.
Interested families are encouraged to complete the following expression of Interest by the end of the day on April 11, 2025.
Three-day programs, July 2 to 4
Programs run from Wednesday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm on Camosun’s Interurban Campus.

Future Women in Trades Sampler
Through this three-day trades sampler, students who identify as female will gain experience and knowledge in trade safety, pipe trades, carpentry, and electrical. Through hands-on activities, students will work alongside Camosun instructors to better understand these pathways and the skills required to be safe and successful. Take home projects will be created each day. This program is open to students who identify as female.
Students will be responsible for wearing steel-toed shoes and appropriate clothing.
General Trades Sampler
Students in this three-day trade sampler program will gain experience and knowledge in trade safety, pipe trades, carpentry, and electrical. Through hands-on activities, students will work alongside Camosun instructors to better understand these pathways and the skills required to be safe and successful. This program is open to all students in the age range

Four-day programs, July 7 to 11
Programs run from Monday to Friday from 9 am to 3 pm on Camosun’s Interurban Campus.

Culinary Exploration
Students participating in this four-day camp will work alongside Camosun instructors and students to explore the world of culinary. Each day, students will gain new skills, knowledge and experience making a variety of recipes and meals. Students will be taught proper kitchen and cooking safety; and, most importantly, make some delicious food!
Students will be responsible for wearing steel-toed shoes and appropriate clothing.
Masonry
Students participating in this four-day camp will learn the basics of brick and stone masonry. Skills will include calculating and laying out a section of wall, spreading mortar, making cuts, shaping and dressing stone, laying brick, block, and stone, and learning how to safely use all the tools necessary to assemble a small project. Learn from speakers within the CMCA (Canadian Masonry Contractors Association).
Students will be responsible for wearing appropriate clothing. Closed-toe shoes are acceptable but steel-toed shoes are preferred. Safety glasses and gloves will be supplied by the CMCA.
Pipe Trades
Students participating in this four-day camp will be able to complete a variety of different pipe trades and plumbing projects, hear from Camosun instructors and speakers within the pipe trades industry, and learn the necessary safety skills to stay safe throughout their week and during future experiences.
Students will be responsible for wearing steel-toed shoes and appropriate clothing.
Sheet Metal
Students participating in this week-long camp will be able to complete a variety of sheet metal projects, hear from Camosun instructors and speakers within the sheet metal industry, and learn the necessary safety skills to stay safe throughout their week and during future experiences. Students will create a variety of take-home projects throughout the week.
Students will be responsible for wearing steel-toed shoes and appropriate clothing.
Welding
This one-week program will enable students to explore welding through a variety of hands-on projects and interactive demonstrations. Working in Camosun shops, alongside Camosun instructors, students will gain experience in a variety of welding techniques.
